Passengers In Limbo As PIA Strike Continues ,150 Flights Cancelled

KARACHI:flights of the national airline have been cancelled over 150 and the employees of the Pakistan Airlines (PIA) continued their protest for the 10 days and flight operations remained dismised for the third day on Thursday.

Protests against the proposed privatization of the national airline are taking place in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities despite the government’s imposition of the Essential Services Act.

With the airline’s flight operation completelys uspended PIA management is arranging aircraft to bring in stranded passengers. PIA has arranged four Boeing aircraft of other airlines to bring home nearly 2000 pilgrims stranded in Jeddah.

According to sources the four aircraft arranged by PIA will not only bring home the pilgrims but also take those pilgrims holding PIA tickets to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile domestic passengers have begun thronging to railway stations. In light of the influx the Pakistan Railways has attached additional bogeys to existing trains in order to cater to the demand.

The Federal Information Minister, Pervaiz Rasheed claims the strike had failed adding the protesters forcefully suspended the flight operations. He added that following the death of PIA employees the situation has changed but stressed that the killers will not be able to escape.
